[Summer Drinking Review] Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy

Written by on May 22nd, 2012 · 160 views

During the summer months, or hot months, the temperature rises, men and women alike are forced to drink beers that are refreshing. Foodenator selected myself to review such a refreshing beer on my latest trip to the Kalahari Desert, Africa. I knew I would have several hours to put back some beers during one of several horseback rides through hot sands. The Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy [Pictured Right] was selected by Foodenator readers for the summer drinking review.

What did it drink like? Summer Shandy drank like a cold crisp refreshing lemonade mixed with beer. It is not overly sweet as you might expect, in fact it was surprisingly less-sweet and tasty. You can tell you are drinking a beer just by pouring it into your mouth. Make no mistake, this is not your fairy friend’s hard lemonade. Summer Shandy is beer. Unlike fruity malternative beverages, Summer Shandy will not give you heart burn nor will feel as though a mild to potent acid is passing through your internals. An average human could put back a dozen Summer Shandy’s and feel terrific.

What is a the buzz like? Smooth, clarity, refreshing. Summer Shandy breathes new life into the dead and resuscitates the mind.

Did you receive a hangover? No.

Whats not to like? If you are a man, you may feel as though you are drinking a girly drink. Make no mistake, it is a fruity tasting beverage. That said, you are at least drinking a beer, not a malt beverage or a glass of white wine.

How was the finish? Crisp, clear. Rejuvenation.

What type of event would Summer Shandy be a good fit for? Any event outside on a day with temperatures above 80 degrees sunny to partly cloudy with a less than 60% chance of rain.

How did the can feel in your hand? Good. The standard aluminum can is put to work here. The can itself has a tasteful design.

Does it come in bottle format? Yes. Summer Shandy’s come in bottles. The bottles utilize a brown glass. At time of print, whether the glass was hand blown or not could not be determined.

If you were stranded on an island for an extended period of time, would you pack a few in your cooler? Yes. Summer Shandy’s would be fitting for island stranding.

Would you recommend this to a woman? Absolutely, the female mouth would delight in the tastiness. Even non-fans of beers would luxuriate in Summer Shandy’s ability to refresh the human body.

Final Score:

[will be retro] Coke Blak is Back! #DIY

Coke Blak from Blak in the Day

Coke Blak from Blak in the Day

In case you miss that stuff Coke was peddling a couple of years ago, Foodenator chemists have been working on reverse engineering (also known as revenging) the formula. After spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and 11 months, it turns out the solution is quite simple.

  1. Take one can of coke, drink or pour about half of it off.
  2. Add one package of Crystal Light tea-to-go mixture. Let it fizz and foam so that you don’t overflow on the next step.
  3. Pour in some cold coffee to top off the can.

Walla! You know have Coke Blak and don’t need to search of it on the Black Market or order it from suspicious Chinese websites.

[Review] Steve’s Margarita

Written by on October 1st, 2009 · 823 views

You’ve seen Foodenator’s Steve’s Margarita Preview, Now, after multiple tastings, we have this Steve’s Margarita review.
steve's margarita

First a little background on Steve’s Margarita:
After three years of formulation, testing and regulatory work, AL-RITE presents Steve’s Margarita, a ready-to-drink margarita made from blue agave wine. The 12 percent alcohol beverage comes in 375 ml, 1 L and 3 L freezable, lightweight PET bottles. The goal of Steve’s Margarita is to fill a niche of portable, RTD cocktails that consumers can enjoy anywhere without sacrificing quality.

Review Time
Foodenator was fortunate to have the opportunity to test out two forms of Steve’s Margarita, On the Rocks and Frozen. Both were surprisingly tasty, and considering the sophisticated palates of the Foodenator reviewers, this was quite a feat. The most notable margarita ingredient, tequila, has been replaced by a blue agave wine, a possible turn-off for margarita purists, but let Foodenator assure you, telling the difference is next to impossible. These margs tasted like the real thing, on the rocks and frozen. The taste of freshly squeezed lime and a perfect balance of sweetness/tartness really made the drink.

“Steve’s Margaritas transported me to the Yucatán Peninsula” -Sarah T.

It’s worth noting, frozen is the best way to enjoy the Steve’s Margarita experience. You simply place the drink in the freezer, once frozen, easily squeeze out the frozen marg.

For the lazy Margarita drinker, there is no equivalent. Steve’s Margarita easily claims the #1 spot in the ready-to-drink Margarita market.

[Beer] Keg of Natural Light

Written by on May 11th, 2009 · 267 views

Natural Light is a reduced-calorie light beer brewed by Anheuser-Busch, introduced in 1977. It’s absolutely delicious to some, but not to most.

Due to its low cost it is popular among students and professionals alike across the United States and Europe and the East Indies. The beer is also known as ‘Nati or ‘Nati’ Light – (pronounced N-A-TTy). Foodenator had the opportunity to dive into a keg of natural light this past weekend

keg of natural light
Natural light is a light beer as the name suggests. Its also extremely inexpensive which Foodenator gives Natural Light points for. Natural light is also very drinkable in Solo cups. Natural Light also tends to have the ability to be taken down quick, or on the fly. Keg of Natural Light is worth every penny

[Water] Poland Spring .5L

Written by on May 6th, 2009 · 225 views

Some say water is the essence of wetness. Poland Springs says water is Pure Refreshment. Foodenator says, your both right.

Foodenator has had the chance on multiple occasions to dive tongue first into a just opened Poland Springs .5L water. This time we took notes.

poland springs eco bottle

At first glance, you might think, ‘boy, well that sure looks like a typical water, gee.’ Well you have thought right, there is nothing immediately special about this Poland Spring .5L water, its simply water in a plastic bottle.

The water inside the typical water holding plastic bottle come from the state of Maine. This little known state is north of Connecticut. The water definitely had a crisp refreshing taste. Near the end of the bottle of water, I noticed the water was getting warmer… that didn’t say much for the construction and insulation of the plastic bottle, that led to point deductions.

Final thought: If you deem yourself thirsty for water, you probably can’t go wrong with a Poland Springs .5L (unless your a ‘Water Ultra Snob‘)

[Drink Revival] Function: Urban Detox – Citrus Prickly Pear

Written by on April 30th, 2009 · 243 views

All Natural, No Preservatives, just straight up ‘Smog-Scrubbing’ super-antioxident N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC). This drink by the company ‘function’ has been designed to support healthy lungs (really?) and assist with Hangovers. Is this all just a lie? Foodenator finds out…
function Urban Detox Citrus Prickly Pear
This drink contains ingredients to support your liver’s efforts in combating hangovers. We tasted these ingredients, did they work? We’re not sure, no tester had a hang over which makes for a difficult judgment.

How did the drink fare at scrubbing the lungs of smog? Hard to tell. We’re still breathing the same, some of us better than others. This is for certain, no one lost breathing abilities during the test.

How did it taste? Mix between orange crush, orange vitamin water, tang, sunny delight, with a slight, oh so slight hint of adrenaline energy drink
